Email? Text? Slack? Hangouts?
I recently listened to Invision’s Design Better Podcast in which Jennifer Aldrich and Stephen Gates. They gave exceptional advice on best practices for remote communication.
Many topics about working remotely were addressed. I especially liked their guidance on how to set expectations for remote team communication and what channels are appropriate to use at specific moments.
Remote Communication Tips:
Make sure your team has agreed on communication channels for efficient work flow.
If your communication is urgent: send a text
If your communication can wait until the other person gets to it: send a Slack message.
If your communication needs teamwork: Arrange a Slack or Video conference. (Slack has the advantage of keeping a written log of the conversations.)
If your communication is NOT urgent: email.
